The Ruins of Gede are one of the few archaeological sites in Kenya, located 7 km from Watamu. It is believed that the city of Gede was founded by the Arabs in the 11th century and was then suddenly abandoned in the 18th century. A visit to the ruins will allow you to observe what remains: the walls, three mosques, the sultan's palace, and other houses. The ruins are surrounded by a forest of baobabs, quinine trees, and sequoias inhabited by friendly monkeys who accompany visitors during the tour. Local legends and beliefs make the ruins of Gede a magical place, impossible not to be fascinated by.
We will then continue towards Malindi. Here, different cultures and religions coexist and blend. We will visit both the new and old parts of the town to understand the rhythm and lifestyle of its inhabitants. As we walk through the streets, we will see the mosque, the colorful craft market, the historical center with the fruit, vegetable, and daily goods market. We will also pass through the new area with banks, clubs, and shopping centers. The tour concludes with a visit to the wood factory, where you can observe local artisans working with wood and purchase souvenirs.
